Tutoring

Throughout the last two years of high school, I would tutor my fellow classmates everyday during my study hall. If they ever needed help, they were welcome to go into a conference room where me or another National Honors Society member would be there to help them. I also had a tutoring job through the University of Findlay for local Findlay City Schools. Through this, I would pull kids into the hall and help them to understand whatever lesson they were struggling with at the time. I also would do whatever the teacher needed me to do such as testing, grading, and sitting as a resource for the students to come to if they were struggling on an assignment.

Career Awareness Training

During my senior year of high school, I received the privilege to go to our local preschool for students with disabilities the first quarter, and to my high school's elementary school for the last 3 quarters, as a student teacher. At the preschool, I got to work with multiple students who had different disabilities, and it was the most amazing and eye opening thing. I quickly fell in love with the students in that class, and every little accomplishment I had helped them make was the most rewarding thing. Because it was a preschool, I didn't help the students with learning subjects as much as I did with learning motor and behavior skills. I often just connected with the students and helped them to gain connections and care for one another through reading them stories, coloring, and building towns out of blocks with them. While I was in the elementary school, it really solidified for me that primary education was the correct job for me. I student taught in a Kindergarten classroom, as well as a third grade classroom. In these classes, I helped students with things such as vocab words, practicing their poems, math homework, and testing them. I also did whatever it was the teachers needed me to do in that moment, such as create posters, grade papers, or inserting grades online. I also worked one on one with a Kindergarten student who was a little behind compared to the others. I practiced with him on the alphabet and even came up with different ways to help his practice in a more fun and collaborative way. Overall, this experience greatly benefited me for my future.
